In the last year or so we have seen Forrester, Gartner, Aragon and IDC all talking explicitly about the power of Decision Management:
Roy Schulte of Gartner was talking Decision Management and decision models at the Gartner Data and Analytics Summit last week and recently said
Stop talking to business leaders about technology and, instead, talk about how data and analytics can drive better business decisions
Meanwhile Jim Sinur of Aragon Research is talking about Better Decisions with Decision Management. Jim said that, especially when added to analytics and AI
[Decision Management is] another discipline that will help consistently deliver better decisions
Maureen Fleming of IDC is writing about Decision-Centric computing and showing how Predictive Analytics Maturity Needs Business Rules. In recent research she said
Without a way to incorporate decision automation to make repetitive decisions, enterprises will find it increasingly difficult to justify their investments in advanced analytics and risk failure to materialize the anticipated benefits
Last year Mike Gualtieri of Forrester wrote that companies should Stop wasting money on unactionable analytics with the great quote
if analytics does not lead to more informed decisions and more effective actions, then why do it at all?
Read all these and you will come away with the (correct) impression that thinking about decisions is important (Decisions First as we like to say), that managing and continuously improving decisions is critical (which is why we always build decision monitoring and management capabilities in phase 1 of our client projects) and that business rules and predictive analytics are a powerful combination (which is why we always talk about them as a pair).
