Decision Modeling, BPMN, Business Rules and Predictive Analytics: A live demo
I recently gave a presentation at bpmNEXT showing how you can apply decision modeling, using the new Decision Model and Notation standard, to build simpler, smarter and more agile processes. The actual presentation was recorded and I will blog when it goes live but as part of preparing I recorded the demo itself and we have made this available on YouTube:
In this video you will see a live demonstration of DecisionsFirst Modeler, our collaborative cloud-based environment for decision modeling. I show how the Decision Model and Notation standard works, how it helps simplify process models and how you can link decision models in DecisionsFirst Modeler to implementation environments like a business rules management system or a predictive analyti

Thanks to Jim Sinur (@JimSinur) for his write up the conference. Jim writes  “James Taylor demonstrated his brilliant decision modeling capability that assists in delivering better […]
ManMachine – The Computer Human Synergy for Organizations
TARGIT CEO, @MortonSandlykke has a very topical post today, ‘Turning Emotion-based Decisions into Fact-based Decisions’. Morton’s basic premise is that while information availability might have been a bottleneck for better decision-making in the past, that is not the case today. Today the human is the bottleneck in the decision-making process. We have been programmed to act on […]

Please describe your current role and title

What’s your background, how did you come to be working in analytics
Our story I think is like many in the analytics field. It’s been more of an evolution and the company has been almost 20 years in the making.
I was very involved with the Internet before most people heard about the Internet. So we were dealing with how to capture and measure all this new data. I’ve always been on the lookout for how to make that a lot less painful. Most of the work was in financi
Decision-centric dashboards and application lifecycle management with Assure
We have become increasingly convinced that decision modeling, especially decision modeling using the Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standard and DecisionsFirst Modeler, is a great way to design dashboards. Building a decision model focuses on the decisions that must be made by the user of the dashboard, on how they make that decision and on the information and knowledge that they need to make a good one. Doing this before drilling into the specific user interface elements involved keeps the focus on business outcomes not on look and feel – on steak, not sizzle. I’m delighted to announce that we have developed a new partnership to apply this approach in Application Lifecycle Management.
We are partnering with <a href="http://assure.net/uploads/Press/Assure-DMS_Partnership_Press

Some excellent Gartner advice on Decision Management
Lisa Kart, Roy Schulte and Teresa Jones of Gartner recently published Find the Best Approach to Decision Management. It’s a great piece and if you are a Gartner subscriber you should definitely read it and share it around your organization. Even if you are not you should seriously consider getting it from Gartner as it makes a solid case for Decision Management. Obviously I am not going to copy and paste it here but here’s the outline they provide with some commentary on my part about resources here on the blog or at Decision Management Solutions that might help you (Gartner outline in italics, my comments not)
- Introduction
The piece starts off with a nice description of Decision Management. If you want more background on this you could try my books  (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/
